Wimbledon Defending Champ Avoids Death; Returns To Win On Center Court

After fighting for her life because of health problems, the Wimbledon defending champ returned to play in the first round on center court with a cold…

And left there victorious. Victorious in life and on the court.

Serena Williams had 13 aces, and won in sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. After the final point, she found her self in the most emotional state that she has ever shown live on the court, with her tears running down her face in joy.

Serena has had two foot surgeries and has been trying to hold on the her life while going through treatment for blood clots in her lungs.

It was just all to much after the match. She said that she hasn’t taken this life for granted, but that after you have been through what she has been through you look at life with a little more compassion for what the day brings.

Even though she is the #7 seed, she is still considered to be one of the favored because she’s a Williams.

The Williams sisters have accounted for 9 of the last 11 Wimbledon singles titles (Serena with 4) and another 4 of the last 11 doubles titles. The girls are bad. After playing in 44 Grand Slams, Serena has never gone out in the first round.

She could have thrown in the towel and retired and it still would be one of the best careers of all time, but she fought back because as she said… she loves to play tennis and, “This is Wimbledon”.

Williams told reporters: “It definitely was so emotional for me because throughout the last 12 months, I’ve been through a lot of things that’s not normal; things you guys don’t even know about… It’s just been a long, arduous road. To stand up still is pretty awesome.”

She is joined by some other stars that will be moving on to the second round also like: Wozniacki, Li Na, Maria Martinez, and Maria Sharapova.
