Serena Williams is playing in her first major tennis match for the first time in a almost a yearlong absence from the sport.
And after being off for that long no one really expected ‘much’ from the Wimbledon two time defending champ, but ‘much’ is what she is giving.
Serena Williams has had to fight back from two foot surgeries and treatment for having blood clots in her lungs to be able to still be alive, let alone compete at Wimbledon. But she has done it, and has now advanced to the third round by defeating Simona Halep. She dropped the first set, but fought back to win both the second and third sets.
The match went like this: 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. After playing on center court for her first match, she played Halep on court two.
Although she picked up the win, there were no tears this time, as she was all business, and believes that anyone left in the competition has a chance of winning (including her).
That’s what we like about Serena, she comes out to play, to fight, to win every time she gets on the court. She never half steps no matter the conditions or situations. She’s a real player, a real athlete and a wonderful role model to aspiring athletes (both girls and boys).
When Serena was asked (Associate Press) how did she get her rhythm back after dropping the first set she said: “it was just a little windy out there, and I just was a little tight, so I just have to relax and enjoy my self more.”
