White Water Grand Prix on in Quebec

Ottawa Valley, Quebec (NEWSTABULOUS) – On track to become the Super Bowl of the kayaking world, the Whitewater Grand Prix is an invitation-only two-week series of events designed to test the mettle and athleticism of the 25 top paddlers in the world.

Once an obscure sport with patchy coverage and very little media attention, whitewater kayaking is gaining popularity in leaps and bounds and attracting attention around the globe.

Much of this is due to the fresh crop of young talent pushing the limits of the sport and challenging conventional ideas of what could be done in a kayak. Events like the Grand Prix are instrumental in creating this kind of momentum, functioning as a showcase of the best and brightest kayak superstars and inspiring more people to get into a boat and try their hand at paddling.

Even those unfamiliar with the particulars of the sport will appreciate the level of raw courage displayed by the competition’s athletes; spring river conditions in the Ottawa Valley promise two things: huge volume and brutally cold water.

The Grand Prix is comprised of six stages of freestyle competitions and downriver races, with participants accumulating points in hopes of being crowned this year’s Grand Prix Champion.

This year’s event runs through May 14. More information can be found at: whitewatergrandprix.com
