VCU Upsets #3 Seed Purdue

Virginia Commonwealth University is now on the map.

You had probably never heard of them until Sunday when they sent the #3 seed Purdue Boilermakers home earlier than expected from the NCAA men’s basketball tourney.

They didn’t beat them on a buzzer beater either. They won 94-76. They have peaked and caught fire at the right time of the season.

They had 6 people in double digits in scoring. Bradford Burgess was the leading scorer with 23. He was 3 of 4 from the 3 point line. He also added 8 rebounds and 2 assist to his totals.

VCU shot 57% from the field and 38% from the 3 point line. They moved the ball around well and everyone was shooting quite well.

JaJuan Johnson had 25 for the Boilermakers and Ryne Smith had 20, but it just wasn’t enough to overcome the onslaught of scoring from VCU.

JaJuan had a monster day on the boards too with 14. VCU is now headed to the sweet 16 and will face the Florida State Seminoles who also had a big upset in the last round over the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

VCU is now being named, “The SpoilerMakers”… Clever.
