VCU In Elite 8, Playing #1 Jayhawks

Florida St. men’s basketball team won’t be joining their in state rival the Florida Gators in the Elite 8 as they got knocked off by VCU.

Virginia Commonwealth Univ. (VCU) won the close OT game 72-71 and have advanced to Elite 8 were they will play the #1 seeded Kansas Jayhawks on Sunday at 2:00 pm.

VCU plays a fast pace game with full court presses, deep shots, and they move the ball around nicely.

They will definitely need to be on their “hustle game” against the well-oiled machine in the Jayhawks.

They are able to offset size because they have great shooters with lots of naturally talented athletes. They have a solid bench which also allows them to keep the pressure on and give people breathers.

VCU who was up by 5 at the half, won the game in overtime by outscoring the Seminoles 7-6. There last bucket came on a layup by Burgess with 7.1 seconds left on the clock.

The leading scorer for VCU was Burgess. He had 26 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, and 2 assist.

The Seminoles were lead by Kitchen with 23 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assist, and 1 steal.

The play of the day was Brandenberg’s shot block at the buzzer to seal VCU’s bid into the Elite 8.

VCU is riding high on momentum right now as they “luckily” got into the tourney by getting a spot into the “first four”. This was the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tourney that included only 4 teams.

Against much scrutiny, the NCAA still let 68 teams into the tourney and VCU is happy that they did. They have proved that they deserve a shot at the big time…

…And a shot they have taken advantage of.
