Stanley Cup Champs Lose Control Of Playoff Destiny

Today the Chicago Blackhawks, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, just played their last game of the regular season.

They knew that going into the game that if they won, they were in and if they lost, they would hand their fate of making the playoffs over to the Dallas Stars.

The Blackhawks lost to the Detroit Red Wings, 4-3, and finished the regular season with a record of 44-29-9 and they have 97 points.

It was the play of the Detroit Red Wings’ goalie that helped to lift the Red Wings over the Blackhawks. He had 33 saves today.

So, now the Blackhawks season comes down to whether or not Minnesota can beat the Stars tonight, or if the game goes to a shootout.

The Red Wings are already in the playoffs, and are the #3 seed in the Western Conference.

Dallas will be bringing their “A” game tonight to, because they are not in the playoffs yet, but haven’t been eliminated yet either.

They need a win tonight in regulation. Then they will be the 8th seed and face #1 seed Vancouver in the playoffs.

Dallas is 42-28-11, on the season, with 95 points. Minnesota is eliminated from the playoffs already, with a 38-35-8 record.

Dallas will also have to get this win on the road. They are coming off a 3-2 win against the Colorado Avalanche, so hopefully for the Stars fans they can continue this momentum.
