In a battle over the Western Conference regular season title, the Spurs increase their lead over the Lakers with a win at home.
The San Antonio Spurs were on a 6 game losing streak, as the Lakers were on a 9 game winning streak and closing the gap quickly for the Western Conference lead.
A lead that would give the winner home court advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Spurs 6 game losing streak was the longest win drought that they had experienced during the Tim Duncan era.
San Antonio was at home facing the 37-39 Phoenix Suns, a must win game for them.
It was a 29 point effort by the Spur’s George Hill that helped the Spurs roll past the Suns 114-97, and increase their lead to 2 1/2 games over the Lakers who lost to the Nuggets.
The Lakers will face the Spurs once more in the regular season on April 12th, a game that might decide the fate of the Western Conference.
The Spurs did get a break, as Nash was at home with the flu, but hey, a win is a win.
On the other side of the coin, the Lakers lost to the Nuggets 95-90.
Kobe had 28 points, but it just wasn’t enough to stop Kenyon Martin and the Nuggets team effort who improved to 15-4 without Carmelo.
The Lakers have 6 more games to try and overtake the Spurs.
The Nuggets improve to 47-29, with 6th straight win, and have clinched a playoff berth.
