SF Giants: Defending Champs Lose On Opening Day

On a beautiful opening day in Los Angeles, and in front of a sold out stadium, the LA Dodgers took advantage of a error to go up 1 and put eventually beat the defending champion SF Giants.

Today was opening day in the MLB, and of course, all eyes were on the defending champion SF Giants.

The game was scoreless until catcher Posey (SF Giants), NL rookie of the year last year, overthrew 3rd base which allowed the first run to score in the 6th inning.

LA Dodgers scored one more run in the 8th inning off of Loney’s RBI double which brought in Kemp.

The Giants’ left fielder Burrell would hit a homer in the 9th, but that would be all the scoring that they Giants would get. The final score was 2-1.

It was the first game for rookie manager Don Mattingly (LA Dodgers), who was groomed by Joe Torre…

…And the first time 25 years that a rookie manager has beaten the defending world series champions on their debut.

The star of the night was the Dodger pitcher Kershaw. The 23 year old left-hander had 9 strike outs and held the Giants scoreless through 7 innings. The 9 strikeouts was a tie for 3rd on the Dodgers all time on opening day list.

Lincecum, the Giants’ pitcher also pitched a heck of a game holding the Dodgers scoreless through 6 innings, until the error by Posey.
