The Texas Rangers have started this year with a bang, going 6 straight games without a loss.
They lost their first game to the Baltimore Orioles on April 9th 5-0, but came back and won 13-1 the following day.
They then beat Baltimore in the final game of the 3 game series 3-0 on April the 10th.
They traveled to Detroit to play the next day and won that game 2-0, but they lost to the Detroit today, 5-4.
This is only the second loss of the season for the Rangers, who are not only leading the AL West, but have the best record in the MLB at 9-2.
They will play the Detroit Tigers one more time tomorrow at 1:05 pm, then will travel to New York to play the Yankees on Friday.
The Yankees are 5-4 on the season, and start a new 3 game series against the Baltimore Orioles today at 7:05 pm.
In the game today against the Tigers, the Rangers tied the game in the 8th at 4, but a single in the 9th inning by the Tiger’s Miguel Cabrera, gave the Tigers the 5-4 win.
The bases were loaded in the bottom of the the ninth when Cabrera hit the single. Cabrera has a team leading 10 RBIs & 4 home runs. He is hitting a .385 on the year.
Before this game, the Texas Rangers had only given up 1 run in the last 3 games, while scoring 18.
Detroit needed that win to snap a 3 game losing streak.
The Rangers do have some added concern now because Josh Hamilton left the game after his first at bat with what was reported as a strained shoulder at the time, but new sources say that it is a fracture.
Hamilton will be placed on disabled list, and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
The last, and only time the Rangers have lost this year, they came back and won the next game 13-1, so we should be looking for sparks to fly tomorrow in Detroit.
Darren O’Day, the 6′ 4″ right handed pitcher out of Florida, will get the loss for the Rangers pitching staff. He pitched .2 innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 run, and 2 walks.
