The Texas Rangers who started off the year with a bang, going 9-1, have since cooled off, and end the month of May below .500 (13-15).
The Rangers still hold a first place position atop the AL West (even though they had 2 x 3 game losing streaks in May), but need to have a good June in order to hold off the Seattle Mariners who are only a .5 game back and keep figuring out ways to win.
The LA Angels are only a game behind the Rangers and Oakland is 2.5 game out.
Overall, the Rangers have been playing great at home, posting a record of 19-11, but the road hasn’t been to sweet for them (10-15).
When the Rangers are hot though, it’s hard to score with them. Only five teams have a better positive point differential in the MLB.
The Rangers final game of the month of May was on a losing note, dropping a game to Tampa Bay 5-4.
It was the Rays’ Evan Longoria that popped a two-run homer in the 8th inning that gave the Rays’ the lead and eventually the win.
The Rangers were winning in the 7th, 3-1, after a RBI single by M. Young that brought Kinsler home, but homers by the Rays’ Joyce in the 7th, and then a 2 run shot by Longoria in the 8th, gave the Rays the win.
The Rays and the Rangers will face off for game #3 in the series Wednesday. THe Rangers won game #1 11-5.
