Pistorius Preparing For a Victory

South Africa (NEWSTABULOUS) – South African Paralympic sprinter, Oscar Pistorius, is gearing up to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

With the schedule stuck to his fridge, he is counting downs the days.

Pistorius, also known as the “Blade runner” and “the fastest man on no legs,” has a double amputation and is able to run with the aid of Cheetah Flex-Foot carbon fibre transtibial artificial limbs by Ossur. He is the world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 meter events.

He needs run his fastest-ever 400-meter before he can even think of lining up against the world’s best athletes, which makes the season to come an important one for him.

Pistorius must cut another three-tenths of a second off of his recently set personal goal in order to hit the 42.25 second mark that would qualify him for the 2011 World Championships and put him on the right track for the Olympics. He has just four months to get the job done.

Pistorius told The Associated Press Thursday:

“I am under pressure, yes. It is something that’s pretty daunting. We’ve been in this situation before with 2008, where I had two months to qualify for the Olympics and missed it and I vowed that that would never happen again.”

Pistorius has some nervous thoughts about running against athletes of the caliber of former world and Olympic 400 champion, Jeremy Wariner, at the Diamond League meet in New York this June.

He has confidence in last months’ performance in South Africa where he ran the personal-best 45.61 that he has what it takes. He said:

“After running my race three or four weeks ago, I know what I am capable of doing. If I don’t do it (qualify for the worlds and Olympics), it’s my own fault. I think that pressure is enough to do what I need to do.”

Having failed to qualify for the Olympics in 2008, Pistorius said it’s much different this time around because he is more lean, more fit, and a “more mature” athlete.

If he runs 45.25 or faster, his chances of making the South African team for the 2012 is most likely in the bag.

Be sure to prepare now, if you want to score tickets to next years’ anticipated Olympics in London.
