Dirk Nowitzki is having an amazing run in the NBA Finals. He has now lead the Mavericks to back to back wins, and the much needed 3-2 lead in the series before they go back to Miami for game #6.
Nowitzki scored 29 points, had 6 rebounds, 3 assist, and a steal in the win over the Heat, and it was enough to overshadow the triple double by LeBron (who was coming off his worst playoff game in his career).
Although the Heat scored 103, the highest score by 8 points of any other game in the series before this game, they gave up 112 to the Mavs.
Dirk scored 8 points and was able to get to the free throw line 3 times, missing none, in the fourth quarter.
Ultimately, it was Jason Terry’s deep three ball that put the game out of reach with :33 left on the clock (108-101). Terry ended the night with 21 points.
D. Wade lead the Heat with 23 points, 8 assist, and 2 rebounds. Bosh quietly had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and LeBron Jame finished the night with a triple double (17 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assist).
The Mavs had a team effort on the score board again tonight, with 5 players in double digits, and another player with 8.
Mario Chalmers gave the Heat a boost from the outside by shooting 4-6 from the 3 point line and picking up 15 points on the night.
Later, LeBron and Wade poked a little fun at Dirk about “being sick” before game #5, by saying “did you hear that cough, I think I am sick”.
As to say, I am sick now before game #6, maybe we can go out there kill it like Dirk did in game #5, which gave the Mavericks the win and the series lead 3-2.
Dirk didn’t see it that way. He is all about business and called these antic childish. He obviously doesn’t get the humor in it and let the media dictate a response.
Game #6 will be back in Miami, and it will be tough as everything is on the line for the first time in the series.
