The draft was a very interesting draft, which had Kyrie Irving going as the #1 player in the draft to Cleveland to rebuild a team post LeBron, and had a record 4 international players (who didn’t play at college) go as lottery picks (1-14).
Derrick Williams, the sensational small or power forward, went second in the draft to the Wolves. We feel that he can have the biggest impact the fastest of any player in the draft.
The Jazz (3rd pick) picked up some help in the middle of the court with Enes Kanter at center. He is 19 years old, 6′ 11″, and 260 pounds of all beast. He is Turkish and already has the nickname… The Undertaker.
The Cavs had an unusual start to the draft having both the #1 and the #4 picks, and with that second pick (since Williams was already gone) they went with Tristan Thompson from Texas at power forward. Thompson is a 20 year old Canadian, who is 6′ 9″, 225 pounds. He is was only the second Canadian player to be selected to the McDonald’s All-Americans team.
Although Kemba Walker and Jimmer Fredette, didn’t go in the top 5 picks, they still went as lottery picks, and their names were some of the most talked about all night.
Walker goes to Charlotte as the #9 pick in the draft to be with Michael Jordan. Jordan wanted a leader and someone with skills and experience who was tough. He got that in Kemba Walker.
Jimmer goes to Sacramento, with a chance to start because they traded away their starting point guard. He was the 10th pick in the draft by the Bucks, but was traded away to the Kings.
He was excited to go there and says that he “Hopefully their fan base is excited because I’m really excited to get out there and start the season with them and have a great year.”
