Jeff Gordon has been having trouble trying to cross the finish line first lately. In fact, until the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix, Jeff Gordon was on his longest winless streak of his career.
Gordon, who drives car #24, finally wins at the Phoenix International Raceway beating out Kyle Busch and his Chevy who came in 2nd. Jimmie Johnson finished 3rd, Kevin Harvick 4th, and Ryan Newman rounded out the top 5. Earnhardt Jr. finished 10th.
The Daytona 500 winner, Trevor Bayne, did not finish the race. Gordon didn’t get the lead that lead to his win until there where only 8 laps left to go. A win is a win, and this was a tough one.
Busch was trying to hold on to win his 3rd straight NASCAR race of the weekend. This is a feat that he accomplished once before in his career. The race was 312 laps on the old tattered oval mile track. It will be going through a repaving before the fall.
Gordon said: “…I can’t tell you how amazing this feels”.
