The score doesn’t show it, but the Florida Gators women’s softball team faced one of the best pitching staffs in the country this weekend, and still put up 9 points and earned the chance to play in the Women’s College World Series Final against the Arizona State Sun Devils.
It all started in the first inning when the Gator’s Bruder and Schutte hit back to back home runs.
In order to get into the finals, the Gators had to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide (53-09) twice.
They won the first game 16-2, and scored a (Women’s College World Series) record setting 11 run first inning. The game was called in the 5th inning for mercy.
Up until the the last inning in the game #1, Hannah Rogers (Gator’s Pitcher) had only given up 1 hit.
Coach Walton’s Florida Gator’s team leads the NCAA in home runs with 121.
The Sun Devils will be playing for their second ever WCWS Title. They took home the trophy last in 2008.
Arizona State is 58-6 on the year, and have a great pitcher in Dallas Escobedo who is 35-3 on the year. The Arizona State Sun Devils beat Baylor 4-0 to advance to the championship game against the Gators.
They have already beaten the Gators in the WCWS on Friday night 6-5, but this game tonight will be the one for all the chips.
Coach Myers’ Sun Devils still have two players (seniors now) that were on the 2008 WCWS Champions team.
