A small group of NFL fans are banding together to go on “strike”…
…not against their beloved teams, but against the NFL itself. This fan page on Facebook is called “Fan Strike“.
Their position is that if there is any type of labor action in the NFL, strike or lockout, the members of this group will not purchase any items with the NFL logo on them until the year 2013.
The idea is that since the NFL is in Lockout mode, these fans want to hit the NFL where it hurts…in their wallet.
Trying to institute their plan and get the word out, in an attempt to help their teams and force the NFL’s hand, these fans are coming up against quite a bit of adversity, primarily on NFL team fan pages on Facebook.
Die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, Dave Chandler, explains:
“I have attempted to post it on various NFL team pages on Facebook and they get removed almost as soon as they are posted! So far, I have not been able to post anything on the Kansas City Chiefs team page wall since I made my first comment about Fan Strike.”
On one hand, I can see why these teams may want to “pussyfoot” around this situation, bonded to the NFL with numerous contracts, and in the hopes that their problems will be mended quickly, not wanting to burn their bridges.
However, what has the NFL done for them lately? Forcing the dissolution of the players’ union, the NFLPA, by team owners.
Ingrid Turner of NewsTabulous reports:
“This action will stop trade prospects, and stops the league activities and other business transactions between players and other clubs. The 2011 playing season is also in peril.”
This lockout will likely prevent the 2011 NFL draft, a prospect that is unimaginable for a 4th year university senior or 5th year red-shirt football athlete.
Dave Chandler asks other NFL fans, “Any help getting the word out there would be greatly appreciated!”
Question:
- Whose side are you on?
- Are you a die-hard NFL fan? For what team?
