Burrows, the infamous Stanley Cup finger biter, scored the winning overtime goal to give the Vancouver Canucks the 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup finals.
It only took a speedy 11 seconds into overtime for Burrows to make the goal, after faking a shot and then circling behind the net to get the shot.
The final score for game #2 was 3-2, and was the second shortest overtime game in the history of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Burrows had a hand in every point for the Canucks tonight. He scored their first goal on a power play in the first period, then gave Sedin the pass that scored the second goal and tied the game.
Then he scored the winning goal (on a pass from Sedin) in overtime that gave them the win.
The only goal that was any faster in an overtime game was Brian Skrukland’s goal in game #2 of the 1986 Stanley Cup Finals for Montreal (which was in 9 seconds).
Although the Canucks goalie gave up 2 scores (after not giving up a goal in the last 135 minutes of playoff play), he had 28 saves on the night, and it was just enough to sneak the win away from the Boston Bruins.
Based on the history of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Bruins only have just under a 9% chance to come back from being down 2-0 to win the Cup.
If Vancouver can hold off the Bruins and get two more wins, they will have their first NHL title in franchise history. This is their third trip to the Finals, but they just haven’t been able to bring home the Cup yet.
Game #3 is Monday at 8:00 pm EST. The Bruins really need to win this game if they want to make a solid run at this year’s title.
