Mesquite Poteet dream year ends on an errant throw by one of their best players, which allowed a run to score from 3rd for Calallen.
Calallen (39-5) had a man on first and third, and they faked a steal from first that was suppose to allow time for a steal from third that would give them the win…
And the plan worked out better than planned. The Calallen runner intentionally fell down during the fake steal from first, and the play produced a throw from the Poteet catcher that tricked into the outfield (error) during overtime innings.
Mesquite Poteet (31-8) had one of it’s best runs in school history behind the pitching of Chad Young.
Chad Young (10-1) had 11 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings, and was just one out from moving into the 11th inning.
Poteet had to battle back twice in the game to keep their hopes alive. In the fourth they were down 2-0 and came back to tie the game at 2-2.
Then later in the sixth inning they found themselves down again 5-2, in which they had a breakout inning and tied the game back up at 5-5, and that’s when Calallen made a pitching substition to Mathisen (11-2)
Calallen will face the Wichita falls Riders in the championship game.
