San Francisco, California, USA – It is looking as if Buster Posey, the reigning MLB Rookie of the Year, may be sidelined for the remainder of the 2011 season.
Posey, catcher for the San Francisco Giants, suffered a broken bone in lower left leg Wednesday night, when he and Scott Cousins’ of the Florida Marlins collided at home-plate during the 12th inning.
The exact extent of Posey’s injury or the duration of his stay from the field will not be known until he undergoes a MRI.
With Posey – the Giants most important player – out, the future of the team’s season and them defending their World Series title is up the air.
For now, Eli Whiteside, Posey’s backup, will be moved up to #1 catcher.
Pablo Sandoval, the Giants 3rd baseman, who is also currently out for 2 more weeks due to surgery on his right hand to remove a fractured hamate bone, tweeted:
“Good morning I feel so bad because we lost Buster for rest of the season it’s gonna be hard without him.”
We wish you a speedy recovery, Posey.
