Arizona State’s Perfect Postseason; Sun Devils Win WCWS

On Monday night the Arizona State Sun Devils started game #1 against the Florida Gators for the Women’s College World Series Title…

By Tuesday the Sun Devils had won their second game (7-2) and took the series 2-0 to bring the Women’s College World Series Championship home to Phoenix.

Arizona State went undefeated in the postseason (10-0) to get into the WCWS Final, and the Sun Devils had to beat teams like Florida, Baylor, and Oklahoma to get there.

For the title, the Sun Devils played a very strong team in the Gators. Coming into the WCWS the Gators had lead the nation in home runs, and was the winningest senior class that the Gators have ever had.

This class of seniors had only lost 31 games in four years before entering into the WCWS Finals.

The Sun Devils were just to much for the Gators, who had scored 41 runs in the last 5 games of tourney play. The found themselves on the other end, being outscored 21-6 in the WCWS Championship series.

The Sun Devils competed and won in stellar fashion throughout Super-Regionals and the WCWS, by not committing a single error… a “perfect postseason”.

It’s been an unforgettable ride for freshman pitcher, Dallas Escobedo, (Sun Devils) who became just the fourth freshman pitcher in 31 years to win a WCWS title.
