USA (NEWSTABULOUS) – Many Americans woke up this morning, and fired up their FullTilt, PokerStars, or Absolute Poker software, only to find they couldn’t play.
The US federal government has seized the sites and seeking arrest for 11 people involved in money laundering & gambling offenses…
These people would include the founder of FullTilt Poker, PokerStars and Absolute Poker, middlemen of the alleged money laundering scheme, and particular bank representatives.
The Poker Players Alliance estimates that more than 2 million Americans play poker for money in the US, and for those players, times could be tough.
When you login to play a tourney on PokerStars, you might receive a message that says, “PokerStars has moved their site to PokerStars.eu and the support email is support@pokerstars.eu,” which is also getting an extremely high volume of emails.
You will also see this message when you are in the tournaments tab:
Due to recent developments in the U.S.A., PokerStars has changed many tournament guarantees to reflect the absence of U.S.A. players. The number of guarantee tournaments remains the same. Enjoy!
An anonymous US, “for money” poker player said the work around for this problem that should work for most US players is:
“Since other countries like Canada don’t have a problem with online poker play, it’s as simple as opening an account in Canada and transferring money to your Canadian player account using a re-loadable prepaid Visa or MasterCard, which is an acceptable deposit option for Canadian players.
This avid poker player adds:
In order to do this, the US players would have to clear cookies & history, and use a Canadian IP address, or hide their IP address.”
This will get you playing online poker again, but the problem might arise that you are unable to withdraw money. Right now, according to PokerStars, all players’ monies are safe.
When you will be able to withdraw US funds is unknown at this time.
For Canadian players, and players around the world, it’s business as usual, so withdraw options are the same: instant eChecks and Visa, just to name a couple.
Without the US players, the games, especially “Sit & Gos”, are taking a long time to fill up.
Sidenote: FullTilt is losing a lot of ground on PokerStars right now, as they are not providing new solutions for online poker play or website options.
