Aggies Overcome 12 Points To Upset #1 Stanford

Stanford women took a 27-23 lead at the half over the Texas A&M Aggies in the women’s NCAA Final Four game tonight.

After the first four minutes in the second half, it was looking like the Stanford women might run away with it, increasing their lead to 12 (36-28), but A&M kept fighting to stay in the game and give themselves a chance to sneak the win away.

The Aggies pulled back within 6 of the lead (40-34), with over 12 minutes left in the game.

But every time that the Aggies would try and inch a little closer, Stanford would knock down a couple shots or get to the free throw line, and keep the lead and the pressure on the Aggies.

The Aggies finally got a break, and pulled within 3 with 3:44 to go in the game (54-51), and gave them some new hope.

The Aggies’ Danielle Adams got fouled, hit 1 free throw, and pulled the Aggies within 2 (54-52).

Stanford’s Melanie Murphy, wasn’t hearing that though, she got fouled and made a couple of free throws of her own, followed by a 2 point jumper and increased the Stanford lead back to 6 (58-52).

The Aggies, and their coach never lost hope though, and they knew that the season was on the line, so the Aggies Tyra White came back and hit a jumper of her own, and then Sydney Carter hit a 3.

With this series of plays, the Aggies closed the lead to 1 with only 1:34 left in the game. The Aggies bench stood up and realized that they were now in a position to win.

Sydney Colson got the ball and got fouled. She hit both free throws, and just like that, the Aggies were in the lead 59-58 with only :53 seconds left in the game.

After a foul on Texas A&M’s Danielle Adams, Stanford’s Ogwumike, hit 2 free throws, and once again Stanford was in the lead (60-59).

So, up came Tyra White for the Aggies, and puts in the layup giving the lead back to the Aggies (61-60).

Standford took a full time out, and when they came out of the time out, they got the ball into the hands of Ogwumike, and she delivered with a layup and the lead. (62-61).

Then the Aggies mixed it up a little with an assist from Colson to Tyra White, who hit the layup and gave the Aggies the lead (63-62).

Sydney Colson wasn’t through though, she stole the ball from Mikaela Ruef with 4 seconds left to seal the victory, and upset, for the Aggies, with the final score of 63-62.

Tyra White was the leading scorer for the Aggies with 18. Ogwumike lead the Stanford Cardinals in scoring with 31 points. Congratulations to the Texas A&M Aggies for their Final Four win, and bid into the NCAA Women’s National Championship game.

They will play the winners of the UConn vs. Notre Dame game on Tuesday for the National Championship.
