Texas A&M Aggies make their first trip to Omaha since 1999, but it ends in defeat to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The Aggies and the Gamecocks faced off in round #1 of the College World Series, and the Gamecocks stole the win in the 9th inning with a bases loaded single off of the right field wall.
The game started with a bang; each team scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, but then went silent until the 9th inning.
Scott Wingo hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 9th with two strikes and no outs.
It was a tough loss for the Aggies, but it was a good game against a great team.
The Gamecocks are last years national champions, where they beat the UCLA Bruins in the 11th inning for the title.
Wingo had a great game. He had four of the team’s ten hits, and got on base 5 times. M. Price gets the win for the Gamecocks at pitcher. Combined with Roth & Taylor, they held the Aggies hitless for the last 5 innings.
The Aggies will play California on Tuesday the 21st, in an elimination game.
South Carolina moves on the play Virginia on Tuesday also. Virginia beat California 4-1 on Sunday to advance to the second round winners bracket.
Another Texas team is playing in the College World Series also, the Texas Longhorns. They lost their first game to the Florida Gators (8-4), but will play North Carolina in the elimination bracket to continue on.
